First spanish catalogue of X-ray reference spectra

FULL VERSION
The Laboratorio de Metrología de Radiaciones Ionizantes (LMRI) of the Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas (CIEMAT), is the responsible for the conservation, maintenance and dissemination of the national patterns of the units of activity (of a radionuclide), exposure (X and gamma rays), kerma, absorbed dose and neutron fluence. Currently, LMRI has eight laboratories.

One of them is the Laboratorio de Referencia para Rayos X en Niveles de Protección in which a complete characterization of energy X-rays beams between 10 keV and 320 keV was carried out in 2020. To carry out this characterization, the guidelines and requirements required in ISO 4037: 2019 have been followed to produce “matched reference fields” by dosimetric methods and “characterized reference fields” by spectrometric methods. A sample of the results of the spectrometric measurements performed is provided in this article.

In addition, a bibliographical review has been carried out, verifying the lack of international data on X-ray reference spectra. Therefore, it is necessary, from an international point of view, to standardize the performance of spectrometric measurements through a procedure, and to carry out international comparisons. In the existing bibliography so far, only one catalogue has been published by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt in 2000, which is the reference catalogue.

The catalogue with the spectra of the reference beams of the Laboratorio de Referencia para Rayos X en Niveles de Protección is in preparation for publication and will constitute the first Spanish catalogue of X-ray reference beams according to the ISO 4037: 2019 standard.
