<\/div>T<\/span>his revision 2 of the MARSSIM will include multiple changes compared to the previous revision 1 (2000), from a global point of view it is necessary to emphasize the general organizational and terminological changes, and the updating of the references.<\/p>\n

Also, some terminological changes have been made to make the content consistent with those of MARLAP and MARSAME and to include the use of statistical tools such as geostatistics and software, such as ProUCL, Visual Sample Plan, SADA and ArcGIS. And, in terms of scope, this extends to the demonstration of compliance with the regulations to uranium mill tailings (UMTRA).<\/p>\n

The most specific changes that are considered most interesting for this new review include:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. An extension in the treatment of the requirements of the zones of high activity to improve the design of the sampling surveys. Also, the comparison of individual high measurements (EMC) is not an appropriate method for demonstrating compliance in the case of discrete radioactive particles (hot particles).<\/li>\n
  2. Ranked Set Sampling and single scan characterizations (or scan only characterization) are included, and information on characterization equipment is updated.<\/li>\n
  3. In relation to the quality elements, the Measurement Quality Objectives (MQO) and uncertainty of the measurement are added, to comply with the most current standards.<\/li>\n
  4. Scenario B has been added (“in which the release criteria are assumed to be met in the Survey Unit until proven otherwise”).<\/li>\n
  5. The use of non-parametric statistical methods (Sign test, Wilcoxon test, Quantile test, Chebyshov formula, etc.) is maintained and expanded.<\/li>\n
  6. The estimation of the scale factor or average of the ratios of the residual activity concentrations of a Survey Unit from the previous revision is clarified, using the non-parametric 95% UCL Chebyshov estimate.<\/li>\n
  7. Regarding nomenclature, the term Project Quality Assurance Plan (QAPP) continues to be used to describe a document that defines the procedures to be used in characterization projects to ensure that collected data and analyses meets project requirements.
