Professional and social groups, political leaders, etc. are calling on the government to reconsider a decision taken in a different context, with forecasts for the installation of renewable energy sources that are far from being met, and when it now seems clear to a large part of the world that nuclear power is part of the solution. Among all these voices, we would like to highlight that of J\u00f3venes Nucleares, which recently launched the campaign <strong>#SALVEMOSALMARAZ<\/strong>, focusing on the first of the nuclear power plants to be closed in Spain. If the political will and the current legislation do not change (the companies have already expressed their willingness to continue operating the plants as long as it can be done in a sustainable way), Almaraz I NPP will be closed for good in 2027, and we will lose a plant that provides reliable, clean and safe energy that respects the environment and people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <strong>\u201c<\/strong><\/span><strong><i>J\u00f3venes Nucleares<\/i><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u201d<\/strong>, they speak from the perspective of the knowledge that their professional training and work experience gives them, but also from the perspective of youth, that of the demand for a future in which work must begin today with solid and realistic projects, far from short-termism or ideological decisions. They defend &#8220;an inherent interest in the long-term future, as they represent the generation most affected by today&#8217;s environmental, economic and energy choices. That is why we support the extension of the operation of the Almaraz nuclear plant beyond 2027, in order to avoid the negative consequences of its closure in terms of emissions, energy security and social and economic development&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And, of course, they argue this with data that highlight the value of having a plant like Almaraz, with its two groups, in operation today: it covers 7% of annual electricity demand and its generation is equivalent to the consumption of 4 million households, making it the plant with the largest contribution to the national electricity system; in 2023, it had operated at full capacity for 95% of the year, avoiding the emission of 7.2 million tonnes of CO2, or 25% of the net emissions of the Spanish electricity system; and it had generated around 900 jobs, including its two groups. 2 million tonnes of CO2, equivalent to 25% of the net emissions of the Spanish electricity system; it generates around 2,900 direct, indirect and induced jobs. 900 direct, indirect and induced jobs, while during refuelling periods (every 18 months per reactor) an additional 1,200 workers are added to the workforce. Closure of the plant would result in one in three of the region&#8217;s inhabitants being displaced and a 36% reduction in the active population of the area. Almaraz contributes more than 97 million euros a year to its environment and represents a third of the industrial fabric of Extremadura, so its closure would have a negative impact of 91 million euros on the economy of Extremadura.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For all these reasons, and because if we do nothing we will lose Asc\u00f3 NPP, Cofrentes NPP, Vandell\u00f3s II NPP and Trillo NPP after Almaraz NPP by 2035, we need all possible voices to join this request.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We have safe and reliable nuclear plants with the capacity to continue operating, think again and stop talking about closures and shutdowns to guarantee the future of everyone, but especially of this generation that says to you <\/span><strong>#NUCLEARS\u00cd<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>, thank you<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every day new voices are being raised, more and more groups are coming forward to demand the continuation of nuclear power in the design of the country&#8217;s future energy strategy.
