The Spanish Nuclear Society celebrates the 50th anniversary of its creation this year 2024 and has done so this June with an act of tribute to all the people who have been part of its boards of directors and commissions during these five decades. People are the true soul, the true driving force of our organisation and this editorial is dedicated to them.<\/p>\n
Within the framework of our Society, it is these people from different backgrounds and generations, who over the years have taken on, among other activities, the commitment inherent in our mission to contribute to the dissemination and knowledge of everything related to nuclear science and technology. We are professionals in the nuclear filed speaking with our own voices from our professional training and work, so that there is a better understanding of what nuclear technology brings to society.<\/p>\n
Some define us as a remnant of the past, as something that should be left behind, but for us, proud heirs of the pioneers of this sector in Spain, the younger generations, those who are starting their professional careers today and have chosen this path, are proof that this perspective is wrong. We have history, that’s true, and we have a future. We have a lot of it. Although some people insist on denying it, reality is stubborn and time will eventually prove the value of what it means for this country to have 50 years of history in the nuclear industry and a solvent sector, as well as professionals committed to continuing this work.<\/p>\n
Today, we nuclear professionals, and more specifically the members of the Spanish Nuclear Society, are proud to be able to celebrate this anniversary and to be the link between the pioneers, our history, and the young, the future, because despite everything, despite the schedule for the closure of our plants, despite the burden of taxes and duties that determine our viability, and despite the determination of some not to want us in the energy design of this country, we believe in the future. We want to be able to continue passing on the legacy we have received to the new generations of professionals, to the young people who will continue to develop nuclear science and technology in the future, and we want to preserve this technical and professional wealth that Spain is currently home to and which, without nuclear power plants, we would also condemn to extinction.<\/p>\n
We know that public opinion is moving towards different approaches to nuclear energy and its importance as the basis of a robust electricity system free of greenhouse gas emissions, and in this scenario that is opening up, nuclear professionals and the Spanish Nuclear Society will do our bit because we believe in the future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
