Last June 8, a padel tournament was held in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Spanish Nuclear Society. The 8 participating pairs, a total of 16 players, gathered at the Club El Estudiante in Alcobendas (Madrid), where they competed almost without interruption from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The covered courts ensured that the rain did not ruin an afternoon full of sport and fun.
After the group stage, the two pairs with the most victories from each group advanced to the semifinals and, subsequently, to the final, which turned out to be especially close. Finally, the top three pairs classified were:
1st: Enrique Poveda, Rafael Pachón (CIEMAT)
2nd: Rafael López, Jorge Serrano (ENRESA)
3rd: Carlos Aguado, Alberto Pérez de Rada (CIEMAT)
Beyond the competition inherent in any sports tournament, the day was characterized by the good atmosphere among the participants, both among those who knew each other previously and those who did not. After more than three hours of intense sport, the players took the opportunity to share a good time at the club’s bar, even making plans to repeat the experience in the future.
