The construction of Vandellós II nuclear power plant

#Aquí hay energía - ASOCIACIÓN NUCLEAR ASCÓ-VANDELLÓS II

Spain’s decission to pledge for nuclear energy was driven by the growing demand for electric power derived from the country’s rapid development in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1980, the Vandellós II nuclear power plant project was authorised and the construction works began on lands adjacent to the Vandellós I NPP. This clip shows images of the Vandellós II construction process. This project’s implementation posed a unique challenge for the Spanish industry since 85 % of construction works and equipment were provided by domestic companies. Vandellós II came into commercial operation in March 1988.
