Countries, workers, political and economic sectors, etc. Every day there are more and more voices questioning the closure of the Cáceres nuclear plant. Almaraz has very little time left to turn around and change course. What has been written, what has been signed today, is that in less than three years, one unit will be closed and a second will follow shortly after, and if no decisions are taken soon, this political and ideological closure will mark the path of the rest of the nuclear plants that are still operating in Spain today.
For us nuclear professionals, this irrational decision leads us, on the one hand, to feel the sadness of having to think about closing for the last time a perfectly functioning plant that provides clean energy to our cities and industries, generating wealth and jobs, and, on the other hand, to work harder and better, if possible, to make it even clearer that the closure has nothing to do with our work or our plants. We are committed people and we will remain so to the end.
So far, nothing new, nothing we have not said and written before, but as it is December, the month of good wishes, we do not want to miss this opportunity to send everyone a message of optimism, a good dose of positive energy and sincere congratulations for these days that are so dear to us.
We, the people who work in the Spanish nuclear industry, in our plants, in companies, in engineering, in research, in teaching, etc. would also like to express our wish for 2025: that the new year be the year of nuclear energy in Spain, the year in which we leave behind the old and absurd dogma of wanting to close our plants and embrace a modern, sensible and exciting future, starting with the continuity of Almaraz.
